In order to provide world class education environment where world-class facilities are made available for the talent pool of south Asian countries, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India coined the idea of setting up a South Asian University (SAU) at the 13th SAARC Summit in Dhaka in 2005. The University is currently located in Akbar Bhawan, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. In coming years the university is going to open it's own campus in south Delhi, India.

The South Asian University is an International University sponsored by the eight Member States of SAARC.
